Story[]
Commander-in-Chief of the Federation forces near Vendeeni space. As a heroic veteran of countless victories against the Aldian Empire, Commodore Wittcomb is well-respected by officers and soldiers alike, and has the reputation for possessing the best analytical skills and judgement in the Federation. Commodore Wittcomb's flagship is the Battleship Aquaelie.
Commodore Wittcomb first makes contact with the Diplo shortly after it leaves Elicoor II. He first asks the Diplo's captain, Maria Traydor, if the man standing next to her is Fayt Leingod, Dr. Robert Leingod's son. When she confirms that it is, he tells the Diplo's crew that a Vendeeni ship, the Dasvanu, is approaching the Diplo and tells to the ship to not attack. He then hears the Dasvanu's captain, Commander Biwig, demand that Fayt be handed over to the Vendeeni in exchange to Dr.Leingod and Sophia Esteed. Maria then asks Wittcomb about how much the Federation and the Vendeeni really know about Dr. Leingod's work, with Wittcomb saying that, while they do not wish any harm on Fayt or his father, he has no idea what the Vendeeni want and asks the Diplo's crew to rescue Dr. Leingod.
Later on, while Fayt, Maria, Cliff Fittir are dealing with the Vendeeni forces on Elicoor II and protecting Dr. Leingod. The Aquaelie arrives at the location where the Diplo is under attack by the Dasvanu and destroys the Dasvanu with its creation cannon.
Later on, he learns about Dr. Leingod's death and expresses his condolences for not being able to save him. He then asks Fayt, Maria, and the others to come on board the Aquaelie, stating that he needs to tell them something urgent. He also eases Maria's worries by saying that, on his ship, he decides who is friend or foe. Fayt then asks if Wittcomb can take him and the others to the Moonbase, telling him about how Dr. Leingod told Fayt to go there and learn the truth. Wittcomb agrees to this request. Before signing out, he says "and about Earth...You had better brace yourselves."
After meeting with Fayt, Maria, Cliff, Sophia, and either Nel Zelpher, Albel Nox, or Roger S. Huxley in the ship's meeting room, Wittcomb tells them that the Earth and the entire galaxy are now facing a new threat. He reveals that the powerful bursts of energy that Fayt and Maria had detected earlier while fighting the Vendeeni on Elicoor II were aimed at Earth and caused considerable damage despite being partially blocked by Earth's defense shields. He also states that those bursts of energy were nothing more than a declaration of war by unknown entity known only as the Creator, whose emissaries and enforcers, the Executioners, have sentenced them to their death, stating that their science has delved into forbidden areas. According to him, this new power has technology that far exceeds that of Earth. Using a map of the galaxy, he shows them that the energy blasts passed through an unknown dimensional space—faster than the speed of light, and that they were released from an uncharted region that was more than fifty thousand light-years from Earth. Wittcomb then tells Fayt that Dr. Leingod and his team probably developed him after detecting the Executioners' threat years earlier. While initially shocked when Maria reveals that she was the one who destroyed the Invisible, when she reveals that she is also the product of Dr. Leingod's genetic engineering, Wittcomb believes that they may a chance against the Executioners. Just then, they receive a transmission from Federation Station #9, in which the station's commander reveals that the station is under attack by the Enforcers and requests backup. He then states that the enemy is not using ships and asks if they are gods right before the transmission cuts out. They are then told that Federation Station #9 had been obliterated. Wittcomb is left confused by what he heard about the enemy.
Returning to the Bridge, Wittcomb contacts Admiral Hermes, asking about the current situation. Hermes reveals that they had also lost Federation Stations #8, #31, #36, and #42 and that the enemy is currently heading straight for Earth. He then tells Wittcomb to stay his current course and that other Federation ships have already been deployed to stop the enemy. Before signing out, Hermes reveals to Wittcomb and the others that the Enforcers had completely destroyed the Aldian Empire, due to it being the closest to the enemy's point of origin.
Some time later, after reaching the Moonbase, Wittcomb contacts Fayt and the others and tells them to meet him at the bridge immediately. After the group reaches the bridge, Wittcomb tells them that the Moonbase is under a state of high alert and that the Executioners have begun to attack the surrounding area. He then tells the group that they will not be able to transport directly to Dr. Leingod's research lab, since the area is protected by transport jamming to prevent direct access, and that they will have to transport to the nearest location: the Recreational Zone. Shortly after Fayt and the others transport to the Moonbase, Wittcomb is told by one of his officers that the Executioners have been sighted and are already fighting the Federation's front lines, having already destroyed one battleship and severely damaging two others, causing Wittcomb to realize that the Federation forces have been outmatched. He is then shown a display of one of the Enforcers, with the image shocking everyone on the bridge, with one of the officers wondering if the creature is a living being. Wittcomb is then told that, despite eight of the thirty Enforcers having been destroyed, they has already lost thirty seven Federation ships. Hearing this, Wittcomb realizes that this is far worse than he thought and silently tells Fayt and the other that he is counting on them.
When Fayt and the others return, Wittcomb asks them if they found out anything. Fayt reveals that there was a secret file concealed in Dr. Leingod's database, with Maria's name and genetic profile being the keywords needed to open it. Fayt reveals that the mysterious creatures attacking the galaxy and the Earth, the Enforcers, are the emissaries of the Creator. Having already seen what they look like and what their capabilities, Wittcomb says that he believes Fayt and shows him and the others a picture of one of the Enforcers. Fayt then tells Wittcomb that they need to head to the Planet Styx, where they can enter a realm known as 4D Space, where the Creator resides, hoping that they will be able to defeat the Creator and save the galaxy. Hearing this, Wittcomb asks Fayt if it is possible that destroying the Creator will also cause the destruction of everything. Maria tells that it probably will not happen and that defeating the Creator will allow them to live in absolute freedom. Wittcomb then agrees to take them to Styx, but warns them that the trip won't be easy, revealing that the enemy has already reached their final line of defense and that it is only a matter of time until they breach it. Hearing this, knowing that Federation can't afford to lose the Aquaelie, Fayt decides to go to Styx on the Diplo, only for Wittcomb to tell them that the Diplo will not be able to make it through enemy territory. Wittcomb and the others then watch helplessly as the Enforcers destroy their last line of defense and attack and destroy the Earth. Afterwards, Wittcomb orders his crew to get the ship out the combat zone and proceed to Styx at max warp.
Some time later, after arriving in the sector surrounding Styx, Wittcomb contacts Fayt and the others to come to the bridge. After the group reaches the bridge, they learn that Executioners have been sighted in the area. Wittcomb then tells them that they will not be able to transport them down to the surface. When Maria asks if this means they are giving up, Wittcomb tells her that he never said anything of the sort, telling her that she and the others will head to Styx by shuttle before the Aquaelie enters orbit. When Fayt asks him about him and the crew, Wittcomb reveals that they will use the Aquaelie to lure the Executioners away from them. Realizing what will happen to the Aquaelie, Fayt tells Wittcomb to not go through with this, only for Wittcomb to tell him that there is no other way. He then tells Fayt that they won't sit helplessly waiting for their deaths and that they plan to take down as many of the Executioners as they can before being destroyed. As Fayt and the others leave the bridge, Wittcomb silently tells them that they must survive.
After Fayt and the others are on board the shuttle, Wittcomb makes an announcement to the entire crew to prepare for battle, telling them that the fate of the galaxy rests on the impending battle. Afterwards, the Aquaelie engages in battle with the Enforcers and is able to destroy one of them. However, the ship is then destroyed by another Enforcer, killing Wittcomb and everyone on board.
Trivia[]
- While not confirmed, it is heavily implied that Wittcomb is Peppita Rossetti's father. He has the same skin tone and earring as Peppita does and the bookcases in his room contain various books about circuses. Peppita mentions that her father is a strong and famous soldier in the Pangalactic Federation and that she takes after him. In addition, if the player allows Peppita to the group, after they learn that the Aquaelie has been destroyed, the camera zooms in on Peppita, who lowers her head in sadness.
