An unidentified planet is introduced in the prologue of Star Ocean: Anamnesis. It is situated approximately 70,000 light-years away from Earth on an unknown sector outside the Pangalactic Federation's jurisdiction.
The Captain and the AI Coro stumble upon this nameless world after their hybrid research vessel, the GFSS-3214F, is flung to unknown reaches of the galaxy during evasive maneuvers. At first, it appears devoid of life. But somewhere in the distance they observe a young woman being chased by ferocious creatures with protruding spikes on them.
After using her summoning symbology to lend aid and the creatures are repelled, she collapses and the Captain takes her aboard the GFSS-3214F for treatment. Soon after she wakes up, they depart for the nearest star system, which contains the planet Maere.
