Status effects are conditions that affect a character's attributes or actions either positively or negatively, and appear prominently in the Star Ocean series. They can affect either one or multiple characters, and most commonly represented by the negative status ailments.

Status ailments[]

Status ailments are present in all games in the series.

Battle effects[]

In Star Ocean: Anamnesis, there is a wealth of status effects. During battle, the icons appear under the HP gauge of each character that uses a Rush Mode effect or time-limited character talent, or after an enemy attack scores a hit. Up to two advantageous, and one disadvantageous, effect icons can be displayed at a time; when there are more, they will be displayed alternately.

  • Damage dealt by elemental skills/weapons is boosted.
  • The status parameters ATK, DEF, HIT, and GRD are boosted.
  • ATK is boosted.
  • INT is boosted.
  • DEF is boosted.
  • HIT is boosted.
  • ATK damage dealt, INT damage dealt, and damage dealt are boosted.
  • ATK damage taken, INT damage taken, and damage taken are reduced.
  • Critical hit chance is boosted.
  • Critical hit damage is boosted.
  • The number of regular attack hits is doubled.
  • No flinching when suffering an enemy attack.
  • Symbol invoking time is boosted.
  • Hp will recover at a set interval.
  • Immune to all status ailments.
  • Immune to specific ailment.

The following are debuff (disadvantageous) icons:

  • DEF is reduced.
  • AP consumption increased.
  • The character has a status ailment (see above).
