The following is a list of skills (スキル, Sukiru?) available in Star Ocean and its remake Star Ocean: First Departure. Skills can be learned by spending SP on the "Skills" menu, or by using a skill book on a character.

Knowledge skills[]

Combat skills[]

Combat skills (戦闘スキル, Sentō Sukiru?) can be used in battle. Even after learning, the player can turn off the skills they do not want to use with the button. Most of these skills are randomly activated during battle, and their odds improve with skill level. They have an increased effect of 5% per skill level.

Secret Fighting Techniques (奥義スキル, Ōgi Sukiru?, lit. Mystery Skill), abbreviated SFT, are a special set of skills that enable characters to learn advanced Special Arts. They must be leveled using SP to improve their learning chance effect, but unlike the other sets, they all have the same SP requirements.
