Story[]

Spoilers, plot and/or ending details follow. (skip)

Sphere was originally owned by Daguon Zeber, and was a relatively small, somewhat obscure company. The first game it researched and developed was Push! Rush! Dash!, an action game that allowed players to control the indestructible "hot-shot" International Police Chief Chen with a special joyball controller held in both hands, in order to defeat Chief Han. Many players were thrilled by the unlimited score-up points, which were shown in the lower left corner of three separate screens (according to a notice in Gemity).

At some point, the company took on a new project, which would be the Eternal Sphere virtual universe. It was made possible only thanks to Luther Lansfeld's core simulation routines for universe construction based on multiple time axes. The other members of the original team were Palmira Armes, Eleanor Duran and Irisa Pahm. Luther also created the Firewall to prevent the entry of hackers and government-backed viruses, and Spiral Tower to store data.

During the development of the Eternal Sphere, Eleanor had a conflict with Daguon, who attempted to destroy her using various underhanded methods. Eleanor took him to court and won a lawsuit against him. Presumably afterwards, Luther succeeded Daguor as the president of Sphere. Thanks to the Eternal Sphere, the company was pushed out of obscurity and into the forefront of the video game industry, turning into a juggernaut. So much so that Sphere became the de factor ruling body of the Lost City. They also created the city of Gemity.

Things began to look grim for the company when programs from the Milky Way portion of the Eternal Sphere began experimenting with symbology, the universe's processing code, and eventually traveled to the planet Styx to research the Time Gate where they learned of the existence of their creators.

The scientific team on Styx was planning on an expedition to 4D space, however Luther had the Time Gate warn them that their actions had incurred the "Creator's" wrath for advancing their technology too far into the field of symbology, claiming it was the science of the Creator. They pleaded with the Time Gate, asking if stopping their research would appease the creator of the universe, however Luther was firm in his belief that the Milky Way galaxy had become too dangerous to allow its continuing existence. In response to his creation's endeavors, he had the Executioner programs created to delete the entirety of the Milky Way galaxy to halt any further "contamination" within the Eternal Sphere and had the entire region closed to the public.

Trivia[]

  • In stark contrast to the Japanese names of the Ten Wise Men, who are named after angels, the Japanese names for Luther (Lucifer), Belzeber (Beelzebub), Berial (Belial) and Azazer (Azazel) are names for the Devil.
