Runology is the Elicoor II equivalent of symbology. Runology was brought to Elicoor II by the Nedian ancestors of modern day Elicoorians, who escaped their dying planet Nede on a ship that could travel through time and space. They arrived on Elicoor II several billions of years after the destruction of Nede since their time-travel technology wasn't sophisticated enough to move any faster or prevent the many time-travel related accidents that occurred during the journey. The escaping Nedians onboard put themselves in cryostasis and slept until reaching Elicoor II. They brought their writings and symbology with them, eventually giving birth to the Ancient Kingdom of Aquor.

In the present day, the practice of runology is almost-exclusively associated with practitioners of the Church of Apris, who interpret the magic as an secret art bestowed on Aquaria I from the Emissary of Apris during the founding of the Kingdom of Aquor. Thus, only a small number of people on Elicoor II are chosen to "officially" learn runology in Castle Aquaria, as the art is gatekept by Aquaria's theocratic monarchy. Although some runologists do not serve Aquaria, these few exceptions to the rule, and they consist almost entirely of people who have absconded from Aquaria, students of teachers who have done so, or retirees.

Runology is practiced by inscribing certain patterns known as "runes" onto the body, and by combining special incantations and sigils, which are able to effect a variety of different phenomena. The strength of the runological force created will depend to a large extent upon the level of the runological invocation and the strength of the runologist's psyche, as well as upon the runologist's experience and purity of bloodline. The purity of a runologist's bloodline is determined by their ancestral connection to the Holy Mother, Aquaria I. The more concentrated the blood of Aquaria I is in a runologist's veins, the more qualified that runologist will be.

Runology, as the equivalent of symbology, is indeed simply the Eternal Sphere's processing code as written by 4D Beings - that is, runology is the practice of manipulating the universe itself.

A secret art that may only be taught to selected members of the royal house of the Sacred Kingdom of Aquaria. The technique of runology, which is practiced by inscribing certain patterns known as runes on the body, and by combining special incantations and sigils, is able to effect a variety of different phenomena. Although the relationship between runology and that which is referred to as symbology in the Pangalactic Federation is unclear at present, it would seem that they are fundamentally similar.

Runological Force[]

Runological force refers to the force generated when runology is used. The strength of the runological force created depends to a large extent upon the level of the runological invocation and the strength of the runologist's psyche, as well as upon the runologist's experience and purity of bloodline. The purity of a runologist's bloodline is determined by their ancestral connection to the Holy Mother, Aquaria I. The more concentrated the blood of Aquaria I is in a runologist's veins, the more qualified that runologist will be. [1]

Channeled Force[]

Channeled force is created by changing the form of runological force in such a way that extremely tiny electrons move back and forth between material objects in a special kind of flow. [2]

Storage and transport of channeled force is relatively easy, and it enables even those who cannot use runology on their own to wield runological power in the form of a runological weapon.

Runologists[]

Runologists who serves the Sacred Kingdom of Aquaria by utilizing a technique known as runology.

Since only a very small number of people are initiated into the art of runology, the ability to use these techniques alone marks a person as an important individual.

Although some runologists do not serve Aquaria, these few exceptions to the rule are almost all people who have absconded from the kingdom themselves, students of teachers who have done so, or retirees. [3]

The power of the darkness rune dominates water and earth and yields to fire and wind. It results in stars when combined with earth, and when combined with fire, it is a flow that invokes death.

Fire[]

The power of the fire rune dominates earth and darkness and yields to wind and light. It results in death when combined with darkness and when combined with wind, it is a flow that invokes explosions.

Fire and water cancel each other out.

Water[]

The power of the water rune dominated wind and light and yields to earth and darkness. It results in life when combined with light, and when combined with earth, it is a flow that invokes lightning.

Water and fire cancel each other out.

Wind[]

The power of the wind rune dominates darkness and fire and yields to light and water. It results in explosions when combined with fire, and when combined with light, it is a flow that invokes sonic waves.

Earth[]

The power of the earth rune dominates light and water and yields to darkness and fire. It results in lightning when combined with water, and when combined with darkness, it is a flow that invokes stars.

Runology Invoked by Rune Element[]

Light[]

The light rune is a pattern that acts on matter by converting it into runological force. A massive torrent of runological force is released into the surrounding environment, thought only trace amount of matter is lost.

Darkness[]

The darkness rune is a pattern that collects the runological force existing in the surrounding environment and converts it into matter.

By condensing the matter it produces, it has the power to distort space, opening a portal to another world.

Fire[]

The fire rune is a pattern with the power to increase the runological force possessed by the target matter. To prevent it’s own breakdown, matter with excess runological force absorbs oxygen from the environment, thereby stabilizing itself by reducing it’s excess energy.

An accumulation of such energy causes matter to burn, and the resulting flames are nothing but a by-product of the runological force released into the environment.

Water[]

The water rune is a pattern with the power to decrease the runological force possessed by the target matter. To prevent its own breakdown, matter with insufficient Runological force absorbs environmental runological force, thereby attempting to stabilize itself.

This fluctuation of runological force chills the surrounding air. The ice produced by invoking water runology is a mere by-product of the low air temperature.

Wind[]

The wind rune is a pattern with the power to stop the flow of runological force around the target matter. When the flow of runological force accumulates in the surrounding air, it seeks a way to escape, resulting in a raging torrent that travels outward from the target.

Controlling the flow of this runological force to make it do what one wants is the very domination of the wind.

Earth[]

The earth rune is a pattern with the power to accelerate the flow of runological force around the target matter. When the flow of runological force in the surrounding air accelerates, the flow itself becomes energy that can propel the target matter.

  • Inside Castle Aquaria, in the Runological Weapon Development Lab, a book called Blood Line Parameters of Runologists and Runological Researchers can be found detailing various member’s percentages of blood line parameters.
  • Despite Albel Nox not being a formal runology practitioner, all Elicoorians have a special ability in their eyes to visually recognize fluctuations in symbological (runological) force in every living or non-living object or activity. The precision with which an individual can discern these fluctuations depends on the amount of genetic blood attributable to Aquaria I, the first queen and Holy Mother from the Ancient Kingdom of Aquor. According to the Church of Apris, the Living Eyes of the Holy Mother are one of the four Treasures of the Gods that allow the Holy Mother and her descendants to see the flow of runological force with precision. These Living Eyes are required to gain mastery of the sacred treasures, including the Legendary Sword of the Crimson Scourge, which Albel and his father are able to wield, implying that Albel is a direct descendant of Aquaria I (versus for example, Nel and Clair whose pedigree is 34%). This is further corroborated by the fact that all Glyphians are the modern-day descendants of former Kingdom of Aquor royalty, due to the initial founding group of Airyglyph comprising of Edyglyph I, her son Airyglyph I, and a handful of young nobles from Edyglyph I's court.
