Roles (ロール, Rōru?) are a gameplay mechanic from Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness. They are used to dictate how the AI-controlled party members act during battle.

Overview

Every character is able to equip up to four roles on them, although a role can be equipped to only one character at a time. If the player chooses to equip the same role on a different person, then it will be removed from the previous character.

Roles are improved by either using it during battle or by expending Skill Points, or SP. Similar to battle skills (special arts and signeturgy), every role has a Mastery percentage shown that will increase if used in battle, lessening the amount of SP needed for it to reach the next level. New roles are learned through a variety of ways, such as leveling other roles, as rewards from quests and achieving certain battle trophies, and even for viewing specific Private Actions.
