Funny to see that Raphael was right about you. I see you're still trying to go blindly against us.

Battle[]

Main Story[]

Raphael is fought in the second invasion of Phynal, alongside Camael and Zadkiel. He isn't the strongest Wise Men out of the three, but is arguably one of the most deadly.

Despite his fairly average HP and MP, Raphael is a formidable enemy. Like Zadkiel, he can teleport all over field, making him a serious threat; to make matters worse, he can grab party members and send them to another dimension, although attacking him will cause him to release the character. His spells are Cure All and Thundercloud; however, he has a fairly weak Magic Attack when compared to Camael so it shouldn't be a problem. He also has an energy wave attack similar to Gabriel's Divine Wave attack which he uses during teleportation, which is very deadly and can score multiple hits.

Post-Game[]

The Raid Boss version of Raphael can be fought in VR Expel. He is located in the shores of the Hoffmann Continent. Being an Enemy Leader, he will prevent the use of all Symbology Spells of the party, severely handicapping the party if they have any spellcasters in the active party. Apart from his usual moves and skills, this variation also has a unique gimmick; it possesses an incredibly high evasion rate, causing every physical attack and Special Skills to miss more often, given his near ethereal appearance, as magic being the only way to damage him fully. One trick into actually damaging him is by depleting his shields with the Mind Bomb item, and have your spellcasters in your party equipped with offensive spells in your Assault Formation as it will bypass the restrictions it does against your party. Once broken, go all out with your offensive team's best skills to dish out his HP as quickly as possible. The use of items such as The Scream and Starry Night can be a good alternative. The player is rewarded with the Phantom Boots, an Ash Crystal, and the Raphael Jewel.

Gameplay[]

In the remake, Raphael can be summoned as an Assault character. His summon ability "Wave", deals damage around its enemies. Unlike the rest of the Wise Men's Assault Abilities, he is one of the two with the fastest charge time of 25, other being Jophiel at 15, making its repetitive use quite helpful in certain cases.

Trivia[]

  • Raphael's true face is never seen, and he only has three lines of dialogue in the entire game.
  • Raphael closely resembles the Jawas from the Star Wars franchise.
  • In the English localization of the PlayStation version, his name was changed to Jibril. This likely comes from the archangel in Islam who acts as intermediary between God and humans, being the bearer of revelation to the prophets. Jibril is the Arabic name of the archangel Gabriel.
