The Philosopher's Stone is a recurring material throughout the Star Ocean series. An extremely rare gemstone, it is often used to create each character's Ultimate Weapon whenever they are obtainable via Item Creation.

It is possible to create it using alchemy on both Star Ocean/Star Ocean: First Departure and Star Ocean: The Second Story/Second Evolution.
It can be made in Alchemy in Star Ocean: Till the End of Time, and it is required to recruit Ansala.
In Star Ocean: The Last Hope, it is obtainable in the second post-game dungeon, the Wandering Dungeon.

The Philosopher's Stone appears in Final Fantasy Brave Exvius, where it is an crafting material obtained in the raid Vanquish Jie Revorse!, part of the collaboration between the Final Fantasy spin-off and Star Ocean: Anamnesis. As a reference to the series, the player can only obtain one as a completion reward (or two, if the player participated in the original event and its rerun), and it is used to craft the strongest weapon featured in the raid, the Fierce Bow.

- The Philosopher's Stone is also an important item in the Valkyrie Profile series, with which the Star Ocean series has many other connections. This incarnation of the item appears in the Star Ocean: Anamnesis story event Valkyrie Profile -The Purged Wizard- Chapter 1, in which a shard of the stone is used by Lezard Valeth.
