Opera Vectra is a playable character in Star Ocean: The Second Story, its enhanced port Star Ocean: Second Evolution, its sequel Star Ocean: Blue Sphere, and Star Ocean: Anamnesis.

Star Ocean: The Second Story / Second Evolution[]

Opera wields large rifle known as the Kaleidoscope Ray Gun, which uses special ammunition that the player can equip in order to increase its power (essentially being her weapon slot item). Opera can use medium-weighted armor, and much like Precis, can create her own weapons and Special Arts with the Machinist Item Creation.

Opera is a character that excels at hitting enemies from afar, being the only character, other than Precis, whose normal anti-air attack is a ranged attack. All her Special Arts focus on long range, meaning only a few change when used at short range. She is also the only non-mage character in the game with an Art that can heal the entire party, called Healing Star. Tracking Plasma is also notable for being a homing attack, capable of chasing fast enemies like the Iselia Queen.

However, Opera has very low stats for a fighter, having one of the slowest running speeds in the game, tied with Ashton and the mage characters. Her defensive stats are also poor, reflecting her gameplay as a long range character, meaning she must position herself properly to avoid being overwhelmed by opponents while being protected by her allies.

The Second Story R[]

Opera has been heavily reworked in the remake. Nearly all her Arts had adjusted hitboxes and speed. Most notably Gravitational Sphere now has a vortex effect that sucks enemies in, clustering them for further punishment. Photon Prison has a much higher chance to freeze enemies, while Blizzard Swirl and Electric Shockwave can hit enemies more reliably. While Opera is capable of equipping the Earring of Frenzy for a major ATK boost, her relatively low base power (and suffering accuracy) ultimately leaves her lagging behind in damage compared to other fighters in post-game, but she maintains her support capability.

Opera's new ultimate weapon is the AAM Clip (obtained by completing 80% of the enemy encyclopedia) which fires homing projectiles similar to the ones from Tracking Plasma when targeting flying enemies; this also works when hitting enemies in a way that juggles them upwards. When upgraded into its Chaos form, HIT and AVD bonuses are added in addition to a substantial ATK increase. The weapon's effect is also modified to fire additional homing projectiles at all enemies during her attacks. Naturally, these changes greatly improve her post-game offense.
