Story[]
Background[]
In S.D. 745, Mirage was born to a dojo-owner on Klaus IV. As a child, she joined the dojo club of her father, a taijutsu master of the Jingu style, where she learned to fight but also met her fellow student, Cliff Fittir. Throughout their youth she and Cliff had many matches, but Mirage—said to have achieved perfect control over spirit, technique, and body—proved the better of the two in fighting ability. Of their 1,036 matches, she won 982 time, lost 11, and tied 43. Despite this, Mirage came to trust Cliff completely and often defers to him.
When he founded the organization Quark in his desire to achieve independence or true autonomy from the Pangalactic Federation, Mirage became his trusted partner, faithfully following any command. Sometime in S.D. 765, they were in the Diplo when it found an escape pod containing Maria Traydor, the only survivor from an Aldian attack on Federation Station #17. The 12-year-old Maria was brought aboard the Diplo, where she met Mirage and Cliff; they promised to protect her. Watching over Maria as a sort of older sister, Mirage took it upon herself to teach the young Maria her kicking techniques.
Sometime in or after S.D. 770, after Maria first demonstrated her powers, Cliff bequeathed to Maria the leadership of Quark, and the command of the Diplo. Instead, he took command of the Eagle, and Mirage followed suit.
Search for Fayt[]
In S.D. 772, after the Vendeeni attack on Hyda IV and Fayt Leingod's emergency landing on Vanguard III, Cliff set out to find him and descended on the planet, while Mirage waited for them aboard the Eagle. Upon Cliff's return, she meets Fayt and they soon take off.
The Eagle, however, is attacked and forced to crash-land on Elicoor II, where they are surrounded by the local Airyglyphian forces. Upon escaping, Mirage takes care of the Eagle, while Fayt and Cliff surrender to Airyglyph to buy time. After rendezvous with the Diplo, she remains on board and supports the party alongside other Quark members.
Profile[]
You're forgetting she's a Klausian. She'll be fine--I pity the soldier that tries to take her in.
― Cliff Fittir to Fayt Leingod
Mirage wears a military-style jacket and shorts, and her blonde hair is braided in the back. She has all the excellent physical characteristics of her people, but the three lines on her neck cannot be confirmed because of her high-collared clothes. (They can be seen in her Bunny outfit artwork in Anamnesis, however.)
Of an extremely unpretentious personality, Mirage is calm, logical, and mild-mannered, but also extremely dependable and always gets the mission accomplished. Despite Cliff's thugish appearance and demeanor, Mirage knows him very well and completely trusts him; she will faithfully follow any command, no matter how crazy it may sound. She also has a mischievous sense of humor, making jokes even in emergencies.
Not only does she have great combat prowess, but she also has knowledge in a wide range of fields such as engineering and medicine, so she can handle most things by himself. Mirage can drink alcohol, but since it makes her drowsy, she avoids it as much as possible.
Gameplay[]
Added in the Director's Cut version of the Till the End of Time, Mirage's fighting style is extremely similar to Cliff's, and shares two moves with Maria. Her unique skills are Avenger Charge and the hidden Blazing Cannon. Mirage has, however, a naturally higher MP growth than Cliff as well as better Defense, the second best after Fayt.
She was also playable in Star Ocean: Anamnesis, wherein she had three variants: "Mirage" (Attacker), "Bunny Mirage" (Healer and bow user), and "Bride Mirage" (Invoker). Both Mirage and Bride Mirage could equip knuckles.

Trivia[]
- Mirage, like Adray Lasbard, is a character that was made playable only with the release of the Director's Cut version of the game. Unlike Adray, who didn't exist at all in the original Japanese version, Mirage was simply a non-playable character from beginning to end.
- The Jingu (or Jinju) school taught to Mirage by her father is the same style that Chisato Madison uses.
