upon Lenneth's defeat
Lenneth (レナス, Renasu?) is an optional enemy boss from Star Ocean: Till the End of Time and a cameo character from the Valkyrie Profile series. Lenneth is considered a superboss and the third most powerful enemy in the game. She is fought in Sphere 211's 210F, the second-to-last floor.
Story[]
The player first meets Lenneth in the Maze of Tribulations where after she tries to use her power with her large spear that makes her fall down accidently, she summons Vox, who introduces himself as Mighty Vox. After the party beats him, Cliff remarks that they could've never defeated him if he was as powerful as he was in the main game. Lenneth simply tells them that she was disappointed before teleporting away.
After the party unlocks the sealed floors of Sphere 211, the party makes their ascent before encountering her again. She summons Shelby this time for the party to fight and beat him. Lenneth remarks that he was utterly worthless before teleporting away again.
The party continues ascending Sphere 211 and encounter her again. She summons Biwig this time for the party to fight and after they beat him, Lenneth tells the party to pack their bags for the underworld before teleporting away once more.
The party soon reaches the 210th floor and encounter her once more by the exit. The scene depends if Roger is in the party. If Roger is in the party, he senses a young maiden and runs up to her. Roger realizes too late that he had seen her before and Lenneth uses her power to blow Roger towards the party. Fayt remarks that something was different and Lenneth puts on her battle armor to fight against the party herself. If Roger is not in the party, Cliff remarks that he lost count of how many times they encountered her. After Lenneth tells the party that they must deal with her, she puts on her battle armor and fights against the party.
After Lenneth is defeated, in both scenes, she starts by telling the party that she is fed up with them and teleports away for good, never to be seen again. Also in both scenes, Fayt wonders what was the deal with her. If Roger is in the party, he remarks that they chewed her up and spat her out. Cliff then says that the "little punk" got what she deserved. If Roger was not in the party, Cliff simply says that maybe it was the whim of the gods.
Strategy[]
Far stronger than Gabriel Celesta, most of Lenneth's attacks build on combos. She has fast movement speed and executes her major attack at quite a fast rate.
Before this fight, the player should patent the Shielding Device and EM Stun Bomb, and get as many as they can of both. For the fight itself, a MP kill is preferable, but an HP kill is also reasonable here. During the encounter, attacks like Ethereal Blast and Energy Burst work well. In fact, controlling Maria is advantageous: she can stay out of Lenneth's range, and do long-range Cancel combos of minor Magnetic Fields with major Energy Bursts at 175% bonus. If a party member's DEF is at least 3500 on Galaxy, they will nullify Lenneth's attacks. Her Symbology spells will still hurt them though.
Her Basic 1 is predictable and easily escapable compared to the rest of her arsenal. Basic 2 can be evaded by hearing Lenneth's cry of "haaaa..." and quickly moving away from her. Her symbology, although vastly inferior to her physical attacks, can still easily incapacitate low HP characters. It can be easily negated with Earth and Wind nullification or absorption factors, or via accessories like the Blazing Pendant.
Her Nibelung Valesti, which hits virtually the whole field and which she starts to use continuously, can be absolutely deadly if not interrupted. The player can manually kick her out of the attack, immediately go to the inventory and use an EM bomb; the stun will likely be the only window for attack, so it should be used well. The Shielding Devices are for surviving when the attack is already heading right for a character; while they will survive, they won't be able to attack.
Battle skills[]
- Basic 1 - Weak attack (4% Fury; HP damage; average chance to knock down, low to stun; may Fury drain). A simple up-and-down slash with accompanying shockwaves that may hit multiple times.
- Basic 2 - Strong attack (5% Fury; HP/MP damage; average chance to knock down, ? to stun; may confuse). Two upward slashes to her front, and manifests a large tornado that ends in one final swing, setting small explosions around her. It has large range and hits several times.
- Basic 3 - Weak attack (5% Fury; HP/MP damage; average chance to knock down/back, low to stun; may confuse). Swings her spear and lightning bolts fly around her. It activates almost immediately.
- Nibelung Valesti (ニーベルンヴァレスティ?) - Strong attack. Used at 50% HP or less. Lenneth grows wings, jumps into the air, and plants the blast in the ground, before the blast expands in a split-second to cover a space the size of the battlefield. It is possible to stun or knock her out of the attack before she plants it (before chanting "behold"); if not, the attack will see conclusion regardless of action.
- Lightning Strike (サンダーストラック?) - Symbol. Wind-elemental.
- Stone Rain (ロックレイン?) - Symbol. Earth-elemental.
