Kurt (クルト, Kuruto?) is a supporting character from Star Ocean: Anamnesis. He is a low-ranking citizen of Levarance, as well as best friends with Terry and Val.

Story[]

Spoilers, plot and/or ending details follow. (skip)

Kurt and his older brother Ralph lived in Residential Sector 8 until S.D. 537, when it was evacuated due to a Devil's Plague outbreak. Kurt was able to board a transport shuttle but Ralph had been infected, and decided to remain behind. He asked Val to take care of Kurt. Due to Ralph helping him and Terry board the shuttle, Val found Kurt. The three became friends and inseparable. As low-ranking citizens, they were sent to work to Dvaleor's mining operation.

In S.D. 539, Kurt meets Evelysse and the captain when he comes looking for Terry, who is terrified and tries in vain to hide from the intruders. Kurt chides her for playing hide-and-seek without him, and Evelysse tries to talk with him. However, Coro alerts them to the presence of armed individuals. Kurt thinks Coro is adorable, but Terry tells him to forget the robot and they run off.

They reunite with Val after he is saved by the captain from thornites. Although Terry identifies them as the tower vandals, Val trusts them and calls them true friends. The trio of friends agrees to answer the questions regarding Levarance's operations. However, they don't know much so Val and Kurt point the party to a device in an abandoned warehouse.

Kurt and his friends learn there of the disastrous consequences of Operation: Frost for other planets. They become upset and wonders how they can undo the wrongdoings, and Evelysse suggests that they fight alongside them against Eldram's tyranny. The trio tells that such a decision will affect their friends and family; the party understands and thanks them for all they did. However, Kurt, Terry and Val decide to tell the other citizens, and they all agree to rebel. While Terry and Val rescue Evelysse and the captain from Eldram, Kurt uses his wits and saves Coro and the GFSS-3214F from troops. The ship then departs for Levarance's medical research facility while Kurt, Terry and Val remain on Dvaleor.

They are captured by the military and are taken to Levarance to be used as a bargaining chip against the party. After landing, however, thornites attack and the trio escapes in the ensuing chaos. They then run into Eve, the captain and Verda Kleiman, and help them liberate the works zone from thornites. While the captain, Verda and the researchers make the vaccine, the trio helps guard the zone from monsters and Eldram's troops when they arrive to take control of the lab. Kurt realizes that Eldram must be unguarded for the moment and suggests that the party take him down, while they protect the lab. The conflict ultimately ends with Eldram's death in an incident involving Eve, the captain, Verda and a mysterious monster.

In the aftermath, the vaccine is finally created, soon to be mass-produced. A provisional government is installed, and the GFSS-3214F departs. In the following days, Terry and Val help take down pulse towers, but they stop sending their routine messages to HQ on Levarance while on Viret. Unable to contact them, Kurt sends an emergency signal to the GFSS-3214F and memorizes a map of the tower. Kurt enters the tower with the captain, Verda and Evelysse, where they must use key cards due to its defense mechamism—toxic gas. Kurt, eager to shut the tower down, takes it upon himself to reach the Central Control Room. He manages this and collapses but he is saved by Val, Terry (who survived in the 'safety zones') and the party. At the medical center, he apologizes and promises to think of himself next time. While the GFSS-3214F resumes its journey to Earth, Kurt, Terry and Val remain behind, working to build a new Levarance "where everyone's happy".

Spoilers end here.

Trivia[]

  • Kurt has eidetic memory, also called photographic memory, which is the ability to recall images from memory vividly after only a few instances of exposure, with high precision for a brief time.
