Genomorphy is a field of science in which organisms are changed or created through the research and direct manipulation of their genetic information, or DNA. A researcher of the field is called a genomorphist.

While it is studied in Pangalactic Federation academies such as the Bachtein Science University, it is prohibited to put it into practice. The field has been declared heresy by certain types of religious people—as some religions hold that DNA is the "program" of life as written and encoded by the gods—and philosophers; because of it, researchers have even been persecuted in the past. However, many a scientist believes that humanity cannot avoid the field on the path of evolution.

The study of Genomorphy from the standpoint of symbological science is called Symbological Genetics (紋章遺伝学?). Only a few races have symbols inscribed upon the DNA inside their bodies, such as the Nedians and more rarely the Expellians. Through genomorphy, this can be replicated in non-symbological beings.

Known implementations of genomorphy throughout history include:

  • On Eldar, the harsh environment caused by their sun's growth into a giant made normal acclimation and evolution too slow to be effective, so they implemented "DNA management" and careful upbringing under governmental care. Following the Eldarian's migration to Lemuris, they were forced to forgo all technology, thus abandoning their genetic practices.
  • Similarly, on Earth, the human race faced likely extinction in the aftermath of World War III. In a desperate gambit, the World Republic Federation goverment authorized Project Hope. Through the cooperation of Dr. Saionji, Dr. Arnold Maverick and the Almedio conglomerate, they engaged in genetic manipulation to combine a lost Muah genome with dormant portions of the modern human genome. They hoped to make people highly resistant and adaptable to harsh environments, but they were able to produce only three baby subjects: Crowe F. Almedio, Edge Maverick and Reimi Saionji.
  • Following an unexpected arrival through a space-time vortex, Muah and humans had to adapt to Fargett's hostile environment and began researching genetic engineering. Although forbidden by Fargettian law, they modified themselves and came to be called "Superhumans". Two such superhumans were Asmodeus and Jie Revorse.
  • Sometime prior to S.D. 753, a Moonbase research team that consisted of several genomorphists—Robert Leingod, his wife Ryoko, Jessie Traydor—and space-time theorist Clive Esteed experimented on their children, heeding a warning from the Guardian of the Time Gate that the creators would punish the galaxy in the near future. The team created the symbological genes of Destruction, Alteration and Connection, and encoded them into Fayt, Maria and Sophia's DNAs, respectively.
