Exploration Base (開拓基地, Kaitaku Kichi?) is a location on the planet Aeos, appearing in Star Ocean: The Last Hope. It is located on the Northern Coast near the Landing Point of SRF-003 Calnus.
Story[]
Upon returning to the Calnus after discovering the fate of the SRF-005 Eremia, Edge Maverick and Reimi Saionji discover an Eldarian Exploration Base instead of their spaceship. Here, they meet with Captain Grafton, who explains them the relation between Eldar and Earth. After this, they are shown the upgraded Calnus, and Edge is promoted to captain of the Calnus. Edge is then given the task to proceed with the Space Reconnaissance Force mission of exploring colonizable planets. The Calnus then departs for Lemuris.
After the events on Roak, the Calnus is given the order to investigate the lack of communication with the personnel on Aeos. As they arrive on the planet, they find a destroyed Exploration Base.

Gameplay[]
The Exploration Base is the first town the player visits. Here, one can complete three quests ("Leg Collector" and its follow-up "Egg Collector", and "The Missing Patient"), all available after defeating Armaros. In the communications room, data for the Balena, Dentdelion, and Eremia ships can be collected; in the living quarters, those of the Zagzagel, Sol, and Rednuht.
