Star Ocean Wiki

Edarl Blade Arts is a recurring swordfighting style from the Star Ocean series. It has been used by protagonists and other characters alike, and originates from planet Roak. While it was originally used for war, over time it became more art and less of a martial application.

Appearances[]

Star Ocean/Star Ocean: First Departure[]

In the first Star Ocean, the Roakian Roddick Farrence, taught by his father, changes the simplified maneuvers of the Edarl sword style to once again be useful in a combat situation in order to help defend his hometown. The one-armed war hero Ashlay Bernbeldt also fights with these abilities, although he is much more experienced on it. Cyuss Warren also uses techniques from this sword style.

Star Ocean: The Second Story/Star Ocean: Second Evolution[]

In this game, the Edarl Sword Stlye is represented by Claude C. Kenny, who uses several abilities from this style. The swordsman Dias Flac also adopts Air Slash from this style as well. In addition, the Harley crime boss Zandor also practices this style of swordsmanship alongside Symbology, utilizing both Air Slash and Mirror Blade in battle against Rena Lanford.

Star Ocean: Till the End of Time[]

The Elicoorian Albel Nox uses a modified version of the Edarl Sword Style.

Star Ocean: The Last Hope[]

Arumat P. Thanatos possesses one technique from the Edarl sword style, Dragon Roar. However, he does not show mastery of the style, and wields a scythe in battle (it is possible he may be a founding contributor to the style considering the timeline of this game). Ashlay Bernbeldt uses the Edarl style when challenged in the Tatroi Arena. He wields dual blades and is the only Edarl user known to fight this way.

Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness[]

The sword style is succeeded by both Fidel Camuze and Victor Oakville, who have also adapted a few other sword styles in the mix via other prior attacks shared by the same users (especially with both of them using the Mirror Blade via Claude C. Kenny's proxy). However, unlike the other primary users, both Fidel and Victor do not learn the Shockwave Swirl art, while only Victor out of the two also can learn Dragon Roar.

Special Arts[]

There are several Special Arts that fall under the umbrella of the Edarl Blade Arts, many of which are recurring throughout the series.

Palm of Destruction is not an Edarl technique, though it is popular with several of its users.
