His Grace truly was a man of exceptional ability, but he was calculating, suspicious, and never one for cooperating with others. Those are not traits of a true leader of men. But were it not for his deeds, I suppose our kingdom would not be as rich as it is today. Even so... I doubt that Duke Vox will be fondly remembered but the people of this kingdom and their descendants.

Duke Vox (ヴォックス・バーンレイド, Vokkusu Bānreido?) is the captain of Airyglyph's Dragon Brigade and an antagonist in Star Ocean: Till the End of Time. A manipulative man, he wants to keep the war between Aquaria and Airyglyph going for as long as he can. He has the power to issue royal commands as well.

Story[]
Vox is promoted to Captain of the Dragon Brigade after its previous captain, Glou Nox, dies saving his son Albel during Albel's failed Accession of the Flame ceremony,
At one point, Vox attempts to wield the Sword of the Crimson Scourge, a magical, sentient sword that corrupts the mind of everyone the Scourge deems unworthy. The Crimson Scourge was previously wielded by Glou, who was able to gain mastery over it. However, the Scourge rejects Vox, and Airyglyph XIII later claims Vox "fell in part under its sway." This mental corruption may have played a role in Vox's subsequent efforts to wage war against the neighboring Aquaria.
Vox is the head of the Peacekeeping Force that reported and arrested the Church of Apris members that were supposedly planning to assassinate the King. It was because of Vox that the war between Airyglyph and Aquaria lasted as long as it did, with Vox constantly pushing for more attacks, despite the objections of Count Woltar. However, since Vox was the King's uncle, his advice took precedence over all others.
Vox is heavily implied to have conspired with Shelby to demote Albel as Captain of the Black Brigade and promote Shelby in Albel's place. After Vox's troops captured Farleen and Tynave and imprisoned them at the Kirlsa Training Facility, one of the guards near Count Woltar's mansion mentions that Albel is in a meeting with Vox and Woltar. Shelby later says that Vox purposefully detained Albel longer than necessary so that Shelby could singehandedly capture Nel and execute Tynave and Farleen in exchange for Fayt and Cliff, all but ensuring his promotion to Black Brigade Captain. Later, after Albel lets the party escape from the Kirlsa Training Facility and subsequently fails to stop them from taking the Copper Ore, Vox brings charges of treason against Albel and orders that he be imprisoned in the dungeon.
Eventually Vox pushes towards Arias, taking the entire Airyglyph army with him. The party confronts him, but just as they were about to finish him off a laser strike from a Vendeeni cruiser kills him instantly.
Gameplay[]
Vox is a boss enemy in Till the End of Time. He has second, stronger version as Mighty Vox in the Sphere 211 post-game dungeon.
