May you ever walk in the light!
― Evelysse's summon chant
Draw (ガチャ, Gacha?) is the name for the summon system featured in Star Ocean: Anamnesis. Like in other gacha games, players spend a specific amount of virtual currency—be it gems or event currency—to "pull" the gacha (analogous to a slot machine or roulette wheel), which will then give the player a randomized reward. Sometimes, these gacha are limited and can only be obtained within a specific time-frame.
Explained as being Evelysse's ability, summoning enables players to obtain playable characters through Character Draws (キャラガチャ?), weapons through Weapon Draws (武器ガチャ?), and miscellaneous items and materials through Box Draws (ボックスガチャ?). The three options are all located on the Draw screen, accessed through the menu at the bottom.
Character and Weapon Draws can be done by using gems or tickets. Players can chose to do a single draw (that costs x500 and x300, respectively) or a chain draw that summons 10 times in a row (which costs x5000 and x3000, respectively). Players may get a bonus for the latter, although these bonuses will vary over time. The game holds bonus promotions—colloquially called "banners"—in which some characters or weapons are more likely to appear, either for new characters released with timed events, or for characters who have received an Awakening. In case the character or weapon summoned is already owned, there is the Limit Break system to make the most of duplicates.
Box Draws are event-specific draws in which the player can use special event currency to get a variety of items. All the items are placed in one or more boxes; when all the items are obtained, the Box Draw is complete and the players can go on to try the next one. Box Draws are exclusively related to a limited-time events, with the exception of the Support Medal Box Draw. These medals are obtained according to the number of times that the player's Loaned character has been used by other players during the day.
