Double Slash (双破斬（ソウハザン）, Souhazan?, lit. Twin Blast Slash), also called Twin Slash, is a recurring Special Art used by sword-wielding characters throughout the series starting from the original game Star Ocean. It has several variants.

Appearances[]

Star Ocean/Star Ocean: First Departure[]

Double Slash is a short-range move. It is learned by Roddick Farrence at Level 20 (Star Ocean)/19 (First Departure), Cyuss Warren at Level 17 and Ashlay Bernbeldt knows it by default. Its MP cost depends on the character (Roddick's is 13 MP, Cyuss' is 8 MP and Ashlay's is 5 MP).

Its effect also depends on the character:

Roddick and Ashlay jump forward and swing their sword up then down in one motion. Since it has a delay and only hits twice, it isn't recommended to use the move a great deal.
Cyuss jumps forward spinning his sword around hitting enemies multiple times. It is a pretty good move, since it hits multiple times and does stronger than normal damage. It takes a little moment for him to actually jump and start spinning though, making it easy to be canceled by enemies.

It has a stronger version: Omega Double Slash (七星双破斬（シチセイソウハザン）, Shichiseisouhazan?), which can be learned when using Double Slash after obtaining the Omega SFT. It can be learned by Roddick, Cyuss and Ashlay as well.

Star Ocean: The Second Story/Second Evolution[]

Originally traslated as Twin Slash, Double Slash is exclusively learned by Claude C. Kenny, at Level 45. It costs 15 MP to use, and its Top Proficiency is 160. During the attack, Claude will jump (while in the air, Claude is immune to earth-based spells) and slice twice with his sword while moving forward. At higher proficiency, he will slash four times.

Star Ocean: Till the End of Time[]

Double Slash is a special art learned by Albel Nox, which he learns at Level 35. It uses 20/5% HP, uses up 20/40 Fury per use, and costs 4 CP.

Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness[]

Double Slash can be learned by both Fidel Camuze and Victor Oakville, who both need to use the Swordsman's Manual III skill book to acquire the skill. It costs 4 MP to use.

Both Fidel and Victor perform a two-stage attack by slashing up and then down, the second slash of which slams the opponent into the ground. Victor's aura while using Double Slash is pink, unlike the usual blue aura that Double Slash creates.

Star Ocean: Anamnesis[]

Double Slash is a non-elemental battle skill that costs 20 AP to use in battle and has a short range. Its power is ATK x 200% and consists of 2 hits. It is known by Shimada, Fidel, Ted, Gideon, Andre, Roddick, Claude, and Dias (in the global release of the game).

It has a variant: Unbridled Double Slash (無限双破斬, [missing rōmaji]?), a battle skill known to Albel and Dias (the latter requires to be awakened).
