Dias Flac is a playable character in Star Ocean: The Second Story, its remake Star Ocean: Second Evolution, Star Ocean: Blue Sphere, and Star Ocean: Anamnesis.
Star Ocean: The Second Story /Second Evolution[]
Dias uses a fighting style very similar to iaido, the Japanese sword-based martial art associated with unsheathing and re-sheathing one's sword for quick-draw-based strikes. Most of his base stats are very high (although his CON is much lower than Claude's), while also being an impressively mobile character, having the second highest movement speed (after Chisato).
Most of his Special Arts are fast and deadly, usually with a low MP consumption, and reach their Mastery fast, achieving their full potential in a short time; however, Dias tends to fall a bit behind in damage output compared to other fighters in the endgame as many of his Arts lack high multi-hit properties, as well area-of-effect for crowd control. Dias is, however, exceptional at single target lockdown and great at killing bosses.
Dias' normal ground attack has the second highest range (after Ernest), but comes with a miserable startup. This downside was somewhat remedied in Second Evolution with all fighter characters having three-hit normal attack combos. Among his notable Arts are Air Slash, which is much faster than Claude's, being the staple of his gameplay until the end of the game; and Deadly Illusion, which is the fastest Special Art in the game.
In The Second Story, the accessories Meteor Ring and Slayer Ring had no effect on Dias. This was fixed in Second Evolution.
Dias also has a bug where if the player spend SP on skills that grant stat bonuses (e.g. Knife, Technology, Aesthetic Design, Biology) when he temporarily joins Rena in the Forest of Symbols, these bonuses will reset once he joins the party permanently at the Lacuer Front Line Base.
The Second Story R[]
Dias is one of the most improved in the remake. While many of his Arts still lack hit count compared to other fighters', Dias can make up the difference in his powerful weapons allowing him to easily break the damage cap. Many of his moves were also buffed in range. His normal attack had its range significantly nerfed, (now being around the same as Ashton's); but the swings are faster. Air Slash now costs more MP, but hits multiple times even on grounded enemies, and pierces through enemies to continue on behind them - once again making it a staple move for the entire game.
Dias' new ultimate weapon, is the Hachimentei (acquired from a Raid Boss on Expel), which makes all its attacks into critical hits on top of boasting the highest natural ATK score in the game (3300). Unlike the other new weapon bearers, the Raid Boss for this weapon can be challenged before Dias himself is even recruited - a particularly enterprising player can get it early and use it for the entire game, allowing Dias to completely dominate enemies. When upgraded into its Strength form, its ATK is even further increased and its HIT and GUTS bonuses are improved to 100 each. It now also doubles the damage increase from the Power Boost skill on top of its guaranteed criticals, nearly ensuring that Dias will hit the damage cap.
