Deep Space Exploration (ディープスペース探査, Dīpu Supēsu Tansa?) is a gameplay feature of Star Ocean: Anamnesis. Available from client 1.4.0 forward, it serves as a foraging system. Players may send out teams of eight units, on up to four scout vessels at any given time, in order to scavenge several "galaxies" for materials, primarily those used in Awakening, needed to boost units and equipment. In order to start exploring, the player must have cleared all Starter Missions.
Overview[]
To explore, that player must start by selecting a sector, then choose an exploration point (the place they wish to explore, also called a Mission) from within that sector. The number of usable scout depends on the total number of character Limit Breaks the player has. Each mission has a main active bonus (starseeds, hammers, chips, etc.), which allow to acquire specific or rare items. The bonuses change each time the player explores there, and those the player doesn't visit also change each day. Completion times range from thirty minutes to eight hours. Once the exploration is complete and the scout shuttle returns, the exploration point's status will change from "In Progress" to "Returned to Main Ship".
Furthermore, each exploration point has three Active Bonus effects which depend on party combinations to be able to raise the odds of success, as each is tailored to specific members' traits. The player can tap on any of the bonuses to automatically prioritize characters who will enhance that bonus; if they want to arrange their explorers more carefully, that can pick them from the character list by tapping the "+" symbols, or the icon of a character already selected. Characters engaged in exploration at one point cannot explore elsewhere at the same time. Once the player activates a least one bonus, they may start the mission in full. Scout shuttles can be immediately recalled using Hyper-Distance Warp Device or gems.
There are four types of bonuses: the disovery rate up of a specific item, a rare item, an extra item, or a rare exploration point. These bonus enhancements require characters that meet a variety of trait and development level conditions. Bonus turn green when enhaced, and orange when fully enhanced. These conditions are their role, their equippable weapon type, Limit Break or Awakening level 10, level 70, and level 70 with maximum starseed enhancements. Exploration Skill—an overall measure of each character's individual ability to explore more smoothly, calculated from character stats—may also be required.
When a mission is completed, the items retrieved are collected and Experience Points are distributed. They may also occasionally discover a rare exploration point (distinguished by their green framing). These rare points have more challenging character conditions, but the chance of discovering valuable items increases accordingly. Rare points vanish at a set time after they are discovered, and will be lost if the player discovers a new one.
