Cooking (調理, Chōri?) is an Item Creation specialty from Star Ocean and its remake, Star Ocean: First Departure. It allows to create a wide range of dishes to restore the characters' lost HP and MP, or even cure ailments.
Mechanics[]
The specialty requires that a character learn the skills Keen Eye, Knife, and Recipe, and the Taste talent. Using the support item, Keen Kitchen Knife, increases the odds of success by 20%. Regardless of one's final score, there is always at least a 10% chance of the Cooking attempt failing: Any score above 90% automatically reduces to 90%. The success formula is the following:

While failed cooking usually produces a food item of questionable benefit, failed attempts at cooking higher-quality ingredients ultimately result in no item being made whatsoever. Furthermore, some drinks can only be made by characters who are 20 years of age or older. Finally, in conjunction with Compounding, it enables use of the Master Chef super specialty in First Departure.
