Compounding (調合, Chōgō?) is an Item Creation specialty in Star Ocean and its remake, Star Ocean: First Departure. It allows the party to combine herbs to make potions.
Mechanics[]
To make use of the specialty, a character must have acquired the skills Biology, Herbology, and Mental Science. The materials required are Herbs, which are combined in pairs. The success rate is fixed, dictated by the character's Compounding level:

If a player has the Sterile Glove, their chances of a successful Compounding increase by 20%. A successful mix creates one of four different items, depending on the herbs combined. Some items can be made from multiple combinations.
