Cancel (キャンセル, Kyanseru?) is a recurring ability in the Star Ocean series. It allows a character to immediately initiate a special art after an attack. It is an integral part of chaining combos in order to maximize damage in combat.

Star Ocean: The Second Story[]
The Cancel skill must first be purchased from the Combat 1 skillset. Only melee based characters can utilize the skill to cancel from basic attacks into killer moves. Canceling killer moves is chance-based, and does not activate every time.
Star Ocean: Till the End of Time[]
Canceling is a natural ability all characters can perform. The Cancel Bonus was introduced, increasing the damage output of each skill canceled in succession.
