Art (アート, Āto?) is an Item Creation specialty in Star Ocean and its remake, Star Ocean: First Departure. It allows a character to create items to assist the party in battle.
Mechanics[]
To make use of the specialty, a character must have acquired the skills Design and Aesthetics, and the talent Design Sense. The materials required are Magic Canvas or Magic Clay. The success formula is the following:
Failure results in the worthless Doodles or Weird Shape, depending on the material used. If a player has the Graphic Tool item, their chances of a successful Art creation automatically increase by 20%. The success rate patterns are as follows:

In the original Star Ocean, Art creations only encompass Portraits A to L (that is, all but Erys's), and the five original cards. Art was also used for duplicating items in one's possession by using the "Magic Color" material; in First Departure, this function was separated into another specialty: Replication. The remake also added the Second Story-original Experience, Benefaction and Faerie Card, the famous paintings and all Magic Clay creations.
